SEO basics part 2 The title tag in html
- 1 Comment
Title tags are considered by SEO experts as one of the most important elements in optimizing a page for search engines. A title tag not only helps crawlers index your site, it helps them determine where can your site be placed in a directory and its main topic. A SEO friendly title tag is considered a tag in which not only the title is relevant to your web page, one or more of your chosen keywords appear in the tag itself. When choosing a title to insert on your tag it is important to think in what can be your strongest or most relevant keywords and which of them could generate the best amount of web traffic for your web site. It is very important if possible that every page in your site has a title tag for itself and is different to others in your web site so each one gets indexed by search engines creating more possible landing pages. This strategy is very useful for web sites that offer different topics and most web sites that specify on one topic but offer different aspects on topic discussion like introduction pages, followed by how to pages and conclusion or perhaps sites that give a product description and then link to a personal product review page. The text of this tag appears in most results pages in search engines and usually is what users click to enter your site. So choose wisely as this tag acts as a visitors first impression of your web site. Basically the title tag transforms in to a link in a search engine results page. When building your title tag be sure to search for the head tags on your web site and insert it between the the open head tag and the closing head tag. Check out the example below it gives you a basic idea on what the head tag looks like in a html source code remember to replace the “Your site name or page name” with your own text or page name. It is recommended that this tag has no more than 60 or 65 characters in length, more than this should be avoided for displaying purposes in a search engine results page.
A html code for a title tag looks like the following code:
<title>Your site name or page name</title>
When placed correctly your tag should be placed in your sites source code between head tags like this:
<head>
<title>Your site name or page name</title>
</head>
