Hi Stumble Upon visitor! If you like what you are reading please support Some Extra Pennies by giving us a thumbs up. And feel free to subscribe to our Full RSS feed for the latest updates. Thanks for visiting!

The key to blending AdSense with content is matching your AdSense ads and web site template in terms of color. Google is very strict when it comes to how much you can blend your ads with you website. Ads are not allowed to look like regular links nor they can be modified so they would not display the Ads by Google logo. Te only viable options are making your ads look nice inside your web site in therms of colors and corner styles. Ads that differ drastically in colors from your website will increase ad blindness. So choose your palette carefully. Do not label your ads anything but Sponsored Links and do not try to make them appear like they are content. If you have a color palette that matches your web site nicely Ad unit placement is more of an issue and and can determine much of your CTR yet it works harmonically with your color matched ads. With the options Google provides you can create nice combinations just experiment with them and you will obtain your killer combination.

We have seen it before, we have read about and thousands of times and the question keeps popping up. Lets face it, is very hard to come up with ideas to write content if you really don’t like what you are writing about. This little fact can get your efforts a little closer to failure. Sure you can create a successful web site but I can almost guarantee it will be more troublesome. Loosing the fun factor in activities is one of the main reasons why people quit doing what they do. In this post I will change the question a little to: Which is the most profitable niche for you? Here are some tips to help choose the most profitable niche for you.

Make a list

Grab something to write with and a piece of paper and make a list of topics you like. This includes activities, interests, stuff you would like to: learn, (learning something you always wanted is a rewarding experience), read, write, talk, dream and even complaint about. Try to make a nice list you don’t have to finish it the same day. Keep your list handy for a few days. Daily activities can remind you of overlooked niche ideas.

Prioritize

If you kept you list for a few days your list is bound to be extensive if not, have at least fifteen or more topics. Shorten your niche list by picking your top favorite topics. Do not discard your remaining topics as possible profitable niches .

Search for affiliate programs

Use search engines to find affiliate programs related to your top five picks. Do careful researching and make a check mark on topics that you can find related affiliate programs for. Make an additional check mark if the topic with the most affiliate programs. Having options is really important, especially if one of the programs in not performing as expected.

Make keyword research

Use keyword research tools like Google’s AdWords Keyword Suggestion Tool (remember to login) to get a general idea on how much people are paying for clicks related to your niche. Again mark the topic with the highest paying keywords. This step can help you get a glimpse of how AdSense and other similar programs would pay for any clicks you get from visitors. Note: Prices on keywords displayed in these tools are not what you earn from them but how much advertisers are bidding from them. As an affiliate you earn a percentage from Google’s earnings on clicks.

Determine traffic

Analyzing search engine queries for your niches is very important. The more search engine queries the more potential traffic to your web site you can use Word Tracker’s free keyword tool to help you decide if a niche has potential or not. Write a general keyword usually the main topic and mark in your list the one with highest total search results but this time with two check marks.

Choose your niche

Count check marks for each niche and determine which is the best niche or you. Don’t discard the top five list keep it in consideration when making other sites. You can repeat the process with the remaining niches from your first list. Don’t be surprised to find very profitable niches in these.

I hope this little method can help a little making decisions. Any suggestions, comments and personal experiences?

What are revenue sharing forums ?

Revenue sharing forums are forums that give active users the option of displaying their ads in threads. Ads are usually show based on probability. For example, if a forum states that if you start a thread you have a 50/50 revenue share probability on AdSense ads. This means that when someone visits a thread you started there is a 50% probability that AdSense ads displayed include you Adsense ID. Any clicks when ads have your publisher ID gets credited to your account. Each forum has its own set of rules when it comes to revenue sharing. Some forums even take in consideration members who post on threads as candidates for the revenue share and not just the person who started the original thread. Rule of thumb: Always read and follow a forums rules and terms.

What benefits can be obtained by participating in these forums?

The most important benefit from participating in these forums is the opportunity to become part in an active community of like minded people that are willing to help. You can learn a lot from other peoples experiences. In forums you can get answers to questions you could not otherwise get answered anywhere, get useful recommendations from other members and have some fun in the process. Other benefits from forums included on the list are that they allow signatures with no follow tag removed from them (great backlinks) and of course revenue share.

Criteria I used in the list:

  • revenue sharing
  • allow signatures that pass on link juice (have no follow tag disabled)
  • are ranked by google
  • are mainly directed at webmasters, making money online or both. Note: Some of them allow even affiliate links other strictly forbid it. Read their rules and TOS.

7 Revenue sharing, dofollow on signature forums

Digital Point PR 7

Webmasters PR 7

Revenue Source PR 5

Web Talk Forums PR 4

DJ Webmaster PR 3

Webmaster Talk PR 3

Webmaster’s Home PR 2

If you know any forums that meet the criteria let me know, this helps make a bigger list. Your comments and suggestions are welcome and needed.

AdSense earnings are greatly affected by ad unit location. Most of the time, ads with greater visibility are the ones that will obtain the best click through rates. When I launched Some Extra Pennies about a month ago, I was using AdSense as a source of revenue. I have used the very same theme since then, but was noticing really low click through rates especially from traffic from social media and book marking sites. Even following Google’s recommended AdSense placement, I was suffering from really bad conversion problems in this blog. Then, I decided to experiment a little with ad units and placement, conversions improved around 30% with some minor changes. I no longer use AdSense in this blog, since I am planning to use it in future projects that will surely benefit more from it. My decision to switch from AdSense to Adbrite for this blog was more influenced by Adbrite’s ability to sell ad space. Ad space selling does really well in informative and news blogs.

The examples that follow can be applied to most Adsense type networks including Adbrite. Here are some illustrations that were published In Google’s own AdSense blog, they represent their recommendations based on general facts and performance studies. Remember these are just some general guidelines. Experiment yourself until you find your killer combination.

In blogs:

As illustrated, blogs tend to benefit most from units in between posts and between posts and before the comments sections. Side bar wide scrapers have been reported to do really well on blogs to as always experiment yourself with different locations to see which do better for you.

In forums:

Top left side bar spot is marked as the best ad location followed by before and after posts.

In traditional web sites:

AdSense in traditional web sites tend to benefit from top left placement but ads just on top of content have the hottest spots.

Remember that these are general guidelines, your results could and probably will vary. To many ads and your visitors will bounce of screaming for mercy, another reason why I modified the current theme I use. Careful balancing is the key I would say.

What do you people think? Share your placement ideas.
