Article Marketing – Article Spinning For More Backlink Building Fun

Posted on | December 29, 2008 | 12 Comments

One of the nicest aspects of article marketing is that you can write a 300 word article or an article of any size and have it published in dozens of directories. Still the fact that it is the same article means it is duplicate content in the eyes of a search engine spider. A way you can possibly get around this is by spinning articles. This way, you can help more pages containing your links stay permanently on the index. However, most article spinning software changes the order of the sentences or the replace words automatically relying on the words and instructions in a thesaurus. As of now, there are a lot of automatic software spinner out there that produce crappy results. Imagine a web surfer landing on a an article that doesn’t make sense. Would you even bother to check out the resource box?

There are services that do work. Enter syntax based spinners. These can really help. These type of spinners usually follow a set of commands that you add inside your article. I normally use Jet Spinner from Jet Submitter it is a great free syntax based spinner. The people at Jet Submitter also have a paid service if you want to automate article submissions after your content is spun.

How does Jet Spinner work?

For example, you can write in your article: The faster you repay your car loan the less money you will spend in the end.

If you write it like this: The faster you repay {your car loan|the loan} the {less money you will spend in the end.|less {money|cash} you will end up paying.}

This is just a cheap example but that is how the syntax in Jet Spinner is written.

The syntax basically tells the spinner to choose from the words that are in the clauses at random. The main idea when writing with the syntax in mind is writing alternative phrases that make sense and that do not make the paragraph lose coherence. It may seem difficult at first but in reality it is not hard at all . There are a few more commands that you can use for even more extreme spinning but they require a little more thought.

How I Spin My Articles

I usually write an original version without any syntax first . This will be probably the best version. For this version I normally have a set of keywords that I am planning to use. I save this copy and submit it the top article directories. Then I make a copy of the file using the syntax and targeting very related keywords and variants. I try to use the syntax so that whole sentences are changed and keywords in some. The more clauses I write the better.

Note: The most important aspects of spinning an article is changing the titles. I usually spin the resource box so that the links and anchor text change too. This is very useful for niche sites and may save you from a Google Bombing penalty. This way my articles do not trigger duplicate content penalties most of the time and links get the most possible credit. Do not write the specific keyword phrases that you are targeting on your website in the article body. Use them only in the anchor text in the articles resource box to prevent your article from outranking the site you are marketing.

Long Tail Keywords: SEO Urban Legend or Buried Diamonds?

Posted on | December 23, 2008 | 10 Comments

Have you ever heard of the term long tail keyword ? The internet is growing at a rate that mostly any top level keyword has millions of competitors. When I started my online journey I failed miserably when it came to getting the really good traffic, the organic search traffic that is. I was some how hoping that my small ten page site could outrank Amazon and even Wikipedia for a top level keyword. But.. It never happened.

One aspect of building profitable websites that can be easily overlooked is the fact that ranking for a top level keyword is almost impossible in most niches at least for a new site. Enter long tail keywords.

The existence of these keywords is due to the fact that most web surfers use more than one word in their searches in an attempt to filter out their queries and find more relevant results. There is a very high chance that you have stumbled on this term before if you were looking for some SEO tips to give your sites some extra boost. The magic behind these keywords is that usually they have less competitors unless, you are trying to target “make money online” of course. If you study the long tail in your niche, you will probably find there are a lot of phrases that have listings that are not near as optimized as they could be and that can easily be conquered by tweaking your content and getting anchored text links containing those phrases. Keyword research is crucial. Trying to conquer the wrong long tail keywords can be as counter productive and time consuming as going head first for the top level keyword.

When searching for long tail keywords to profit from, consider this these tips in your market research:

  • Use quotes to see how many sites are using the exact phrase. Example: “your targeted phrase”
  • Pay special attention to how many of the top results have the phrase in the title. You can then make a search using the all in title query. Example: allintitle:your targeted keyword Ask yourself are there many sites targeting the phrase in their title? How does the all in title query results compare with the phrase match (quotes) results?
  • How many links to page (not to the total for the domain have) does every top 10 result have? Tip: The SEO for Firefox extension does this automatically if you specify it. You can also check for links to domain with this extension.
  • Are top rankers are individual pages are they whole sites? (http://www.competitor.com or http://www.whatever.com/competitor.html) The point is that outranking somebodys home page is usually more difficult than trying to outrank an individual page. The premise: Most links on a website point to the home page.
  • Do the pages have page rank? Again SEO for firefox is useful here and will save you time.
  • Are there any mega sites in the top spots. (Wikipedia, Amazon, Associated Press, About.com or similar) The premise: Domain age and site authority make them so strong in search that can outrank less authoritative sites even without external links pointing to the ranking page directly.
  • Compare search results from phrase match and normal every day broad match. Are they similar? Note: This is where domain authority shows its ugliest face.
  • Phrases in the meta description tag will also give you a hint about how much the keywords are targeted by the top sites in a particular listing.

Hope this helps a little in your SEO strategy. Have you tried targeting the long tail? What is your experience? What do you think about targeting the long tail?

What can you do with the content you write? When I first started to learn SEO I got obsessed with backlinks. I searched everywhere for ways to build up my site’s link popularity to a point that I would spend almost 83% of my time online researching the topic. It was almost impossible not to stumble upon the article marketing topic a few times a day. I somehow felt horrified at the thought of writing content and giving it for free without any possible way for it. I was lazy and had the wrong attitude towards making money online. I started article marketing surrendering to the idea of building free backlinks to my small site. Article marketing gave great results but they where different from what I expected. The real return on investment came not from search engine traffic to my site but from the traffic the articles themselves were generating. However there are many different ways you can use articles to make money online now and help you take your business to the next level.

8 Ways You Can Use Articles

  1. By submitting articles to article directories you can generate traffic from the articles themselves and increase your sites link popularity if you use the resource box correctly. You can drive visitors to your sells or presell pages. Exposure from this type of marketing increases of your articles are published by webmasters in their sitesHowever, you cannot publish affiliate links in the resource box.
  2. Submitting your articles to revenue sharing sites. These sites give you a percentage of the revenue associated with ad clicks and sales. Ideally, you can create small web pages that rank well in search engines. Try building a Squidoo Lens or a Hub Page with your articles and monetize it. Depending on how much you work on it and how you promote the lenses you may even make money online easily and free.
  3. Sell them as private label rights packages. This is sometimes one of the easiest and quickest. Webmaster forums are the best choice when it comes to selling your articles fast. The other and more profitable option is to build a mini site and sell them as a product.
  4. Create an auto responder series. By including articles in your auto responder series you can alternate contents and product offers to help maintain reader interest in your list. This way you avoid pitching your subscribers to often.
  5. Depending on the articles tone, you can submit them as press releases. This is very good when launching a new site. It can help create a good amount of buzz around your site. There are sites that offer free press releases if you write the content.
  6. Submit them to ezines on your niche. You can have your articles in hundreds of peoples inbox if they are accepted by the editors of the ezine.
  7. Publish them as guest posts. If you have a good articles that you have not published before you can contact a big blogger in your niche to see if they accept guest post. You can drive massive amounts of targeted traffic to your site from a well known blog in addition to powerful links from authority sites that are very relevant to your niche. This tactic can really help you make money for your site by increasing you search engine visibility.
  8. Use them as forum posts. Big name marketers are well known to use this tactic. A well written useful post can drive traffic from a community and earn you some respect within that community. Not to mention that you may actually make some money if some of the visitors buy something from your site.
