What are made for ads sites ?
Made for ads sites are designed for the sole purpose of displaying contextual ads from networks such AdSense, Yahoo Overture, AdBrite to name a few. Made for ads sites usually contain little or no original content. Most made for ads sites or MFA sites as some people call them, usually contain several articles from free article sources or a list of keywords at the bottom of the displayed page (sometimes cloaked) for the sole purpose of displaying targeted ads.
MFA strategy
By displaying nothing but ads above the fold visitors have little options they either click on ads thinking it is part of the sites content, click on ads hoping to find a better site or hit the back button on the web browser. MFA sites are normally not SEO friendly. Due to lack of content, duplicate or scraped content, cloaked keywords, immediate rejection from directories and no link love from other webmasters, webmasters building MFA sites use Pay Per Click advertising to gain profits.
MFA builders do their research properly. Careful keyword research from these webmasters help them find the lowest paying winning bids possible from keywords related to a particular niche or several niches helping their sites appear in contextual ads everywhere on the web. Have you ever clicked on an ad and found a web site the that says only best X sites for a particular niche for example, best 5 sites for green tea? There is a probability that this site has 5 ads blended to look like normal text links and if its true, chances are it is a MFA site. Not to say all best X sites are MFA but it was a common MFA archetype that was very common some time ago.
Made for ads sites and your AdSense earnings
The real secret of MFA sites is that by paying small amounts of money for their keywords in PPC campaigns they take visitors who click on their ads to a site where visitors click higher paying ads thus earning a profit.
I constructed a small chart so you can get a general idea on how MFAs profit out of web sites. Numbers represented in this chart are for educational purposes only and do not represent actual earnings.

Let’s say your visitors click on ads that point to a MFA site, their ads using cheap keywords earn you $0.02 a click. Supposing that all visitors fall for the trick they all click on high paying ads displayed in the MFA site which earns the webmaster $0.20 a click. After only fifty clicks the difference in earnings is worth considering:
Your earnings : $0.02 X 50 = $1.00
MFA site: $0.20 X 50 = $10.00
In order to avoid these web sites from affecting your AdSense earnings it’s very important to set up Adsense’s Competitive Ad Filter carefully since only 200 Urls are allowed to be blocked. Do not click your ads in curiosity. Ads Black List offers a list of such sites for free and their paid service is even better allowing you to make better research. Do not waste your Ad Filter spaces on sites that would not affect your earnings. It is better if you paste Urls from the black list in to your browser to see if those sites are still running. It takes time to take a look those sites one by one, but in the end, it may help you increase your earnings. Sounds like hard work but the truth is that Ads Black list has a search tool that helps filter out MFA sites in the list and provides you with the ones related to your niche. By blocking the right sites you raise your probability of high paying ads appearing on your web site.
Has the Competitive Ad Filter helped you in anyway?
