Do Follow Comments, Page Rank and SEO

Most of us have already read about the SEO benefits of blog commenting on do follow blogs. However, there is a little problem about commenting on blogs in general. Most bloggers do not like keywords in the name field. The SEO benefits then turn to nothing. Of course, there is always a little link juice flow that is associated to a link to your site appearing on somebody else’s do follow blog. But the problem is that Google places a lot of importance on links that are pointing to your site. Now if most of your links just have your name on the anchor text all the SEO benefits are wasted unless you are a famous celebrity or something. Now what SEO benefit can you gain if the blogs that you comment do not allow keywords? Nothing perhaps a little page rank to your home page. Unless you want to sell links in the future, page rank means nothing if you do not have any authority for your keywords.
Now that you might re-think about spamming do follow blogs there is another approach that you can take to get a good editorial link. Instead of posting crap comments, add value to that persons blog. By doing this you may become a business partner with that blogger and maybe even exchange links or get a one way link at some point in time. Remember, comments are not only links but a good quality keyword rich comment is also valuable content in the eyes of a search engine and even if that blogger does not exchange links or link to you in any way , that person may follow back to you blog and leave a good quality comment for search engines to read . It is a win- win situation. So if you want real comments on your blog, instead of commenting for traffic of for just a link try leaving something useful on other peoples blog and not a nice tips thanks type of crap.
In summary:
A comment with your name on the anchor sucks even if it is do follow. Try getting the attention of the blogger and establish some sort of business relationship over time. Don’t be a spammer. Make your comments relevant and useful. This might help you avoid looking like a moron especially if you are acting all “guru” on a niche and spam a blog with a nice tips thanks crap.

I agree with you. I always take the time to contribute meaninfully when I comment. That way, even if it’s a keyword that is used in the name field, the owner of the blog will appreciate the meaningful comment and approve it. So, even if the owner of the blog frowns at comments with keywords instead of names, if the comment has good quality and contributes meaninfully, MOST blog owners will approve it. Thanks for sharing this, Archie.

i couldnt agree more, i often link back to my site in a comment but i try to actually contribute when i comment so its not purely spam. That way both the blog owner and commenter are winning. Meaningful posts and a link back. Definate win win situation. And im open to trade links with anyone willing to!

Yeah that is true I hate it when people put something like: “great post” and some BS after or like “thanks for the info” and more BS after…
I do not understand why people only care for just backlinks when they can get even more by actually READING the post and giving some insight or a an actual opinion.
