Wordpress-Setting Your Free Automatic Affiliate Link Injection Machine
Posted on | January 12, 2009 | 10 Comments
Have you spent hours digging through old posts in your blog in an attempt to find phrases to drop your affiliate links on? If this sounds like you then you are just wasting your time. Here is a method to take your linking to the next level, bring life to your old posts, save you time in the long run and perhaps help you make money online blogging.
The concept behind this method is to create an effect similar to commercial Wordpress plug ins for Free. Yep for free!
This is done by combining two plug ins. We will be using SEO Master and WP-Affiliate. The strategy is simple.
Use Wp-Affiliate to cloak your affiliate links in order to avoid ugly Urls and protect your links from spyware.
Hiding your Affiliate Links with Wp-Affiliate
First, your have to go to your post editor and look for the Wp-Affiliate drop down menu.

Make a category for your link. This will create affiliate links in the format http://www.yourdomain.com/affiliatelinkcategory/product. In this case the category is whatever. Usually bloggers use go or recommends or something similar. If you chose recommends your link will look like this: http://www.yourdomain.com/recommends/product.

Now that the category is created we add a link to that category. Chose the category and another drop down menu appears. Fill in the fields. With your original affiliate link and the name of the product as the anchor text.

Ta da!!! Here is your new cloaked nice looking affiliate link.

The link now is: http://www.someextrapennies.com/whatever/ugly-affiliate-link. In your case instead of someextrapennies.com it will have your domain.
Starting the Auto Linking Madness
Go to SEO Master in your Wordpress menu
Go to the auto linker module.

In the global options choose these options:

Personally I do not like the Header Autolink. It might make your blog look spammy if one of the words in your post’s headers happens to be an affiliate link. You also have the option to select how many of your keywords will be replaced in a given post. If you do not mind having having a controlled number of replacements leave the default value which is -1.
Now go to the keyword menu and input your data:
![]()
Finally click add, and that keyword or phrase gets replaced throughout your blog with the affiliate link an example of this tactic in action is this link: make money blogging
Repeat the last step for all the key phrases you want to replace. The process is just write key phrase and paste link. Use the pic above for reference. Hope this helps you make extra money from your blog.
Hint: If you do not want search engines crawling your affiliate links use something like this in robots.txt. Just substitute youraffiliatelinkcategory with…. the name of your affilate link category. Duh!
User-agent: * Disallow: /youraffiliatelinkcategory/
P.S. Sorry for the ugly looking post
Questions? Recommendations are welcome. Help make this small tutorial better.
I hope this little tutorial helps you make more money online.

Hello,
Wow, this looks like exactly what I’ve been looking for.
I’ve always had to go back and look through post by
post after doing a search and changing all the links to
my affiliate link.
Now that you’ve shown this, it should help hasten
things a lot~ Thanks a bunch!

Very good useful plugins
I somehow, do it myself manually because even for affiliate links I have implemented my own tool to track, except for direct links as sought by advertisers.
They are really useful for those who do not want to add an extra URL in the content
Cheers,

@Asher Thanks for dropping by. I’m glad you liked the auto affiliate linking tip. There is a commercial plugin that does this also but it costs around $50. With this trick you get something similar less tracking and by combining two plugins instead of one but hey… its free.
I’m really slow on the posting lately college is killing my time not to mention that I have been tweaking and building content on my money making sites in what little time I have. But I will post something soon. Promise…
