How To Make Money Online Blogging

I wanted to share with you some tactics that have given me great results when it comes to search engine traffic and making money online with blogs. Seems like a lot of people have trouble getting organic traffic to their blogs so I decided to give you guys a few pointers that can help you make money.
If you want to get traffic to your blog posts that actually looks at your Ads and makes you money, you have to target keywords within your blog posts. There are quite a large percentage of people that think that if they tweak their posts to get more SEO traffic to their blogs, their readers will run away screaming for mercy. The truth is that you do not have to repeat your targeted keywords over and over again to be able to make a fully SEO optimized blog post. So how can you write posts that does not look like nonsense to your readers and that actually have a chance to rank in search engines?
1) Use your title tag. If you are concerned about putting off your readers or perhaps the titles of your posts not sounding interesting to your readers if you drop a huge long tail keyword, you can at least use the title tag. The title tag is the single most important on page SEO factor in any web page. It has even more weight that keywords inside the actual content. Use it to your advantage. The truth is that a lot of people that are landing on your site through a feed do not even look at your title tag. Most of them look at your post’s title. The title tag used for SEO does not affect in any way your post’s content or how it appears on feeds, it does affect click through rate on SERPs though.
Let me give you an example. If you are writing a post about your experience when you visited let’s say China and you post your blog tittle like: “I am back from China” it may appeal to friends and readers but besides your regular readers you will get no organic traffic. You can use common plug ins like the all in one seo pack to change you SEO title tag to something that may be more relevant for example, “China Tourism – My Adventures When I Decided to Travel to China”. Of course, this is just an example I made rather quickly for the purpose of this post and it sucks but I know you will get the idea I hope. Those phrases have a lot of competition but if you point anchored links to that page you have more of a chance to get some search engine traffic from long tails if you can’t rank on page one for the targeted terms.
2) Take advantage of your URL. Another little tweak that you can do to your posts to help you make money online is to take advantage of the URL. If you are using wordpress as your platform you can change the automatically generated URL to one that is more suitable. This automatically generated URL will just take your post’s title and transform it into an URL. So if you are following the example above you can probably predict the url will look like this: http://www.yoursite.com/i-am-back-from-china or even uglier if you are using a permalink structure that uses dates or stuff like that. You can at least change the i-am-back-from-china part of the URL to something like http://www.yoursite.com/travel-to-china or perhaps http://www.yoursite.com/china-tourism.
3) Use WP tags. Tags not only add to the overall navigation structure of the site but they are also picked up by engines such as technorati. Which…. Gets you links!!!! They also appear on your blog’s technorati page like categories. You can use tags to drop keywords that you are targeting without annoying readers. Mostly everyone does this but a lot people tag with the first thing that comes to mind. Use targeted keywords instead. This little techniques is very useful if your post has a very low keyword density. You get double the fun if you have a tag cloud in your site. By the way if you have been following the SEO niche recently you may already know that no follow page rank sculpting is dead. Matt Cutts announced it recently. If you have your categories and tags set to no follow the corresponding page rank does not stay within your site. It just disappears instead of remaining within the page. Yep, even no follow links lower your page rank and this includes no followed blog comments and there is nothing you can do about it if you have a blog. Unless you close the comment section, which is not a good option if you ask me.
4) Interlink your posts. One of the best ways that you can help your blog get better search engine traffic is to interlink you posts. You can use targeted anchor text from new posts and you can modify older posts to point links to your home page or any entry that you may want to get more link juice. I usually modify very old posts to point to other pages in my sites. It is even better if they already have some page rank. Try to find entries that have page rank and point links to them to your home page and you will see what happens. A tactic that I usually use on my niche sites is if my blog is targeting something like: used cars, I write a post targeting cheap used cars. Then I use article marketing to give this post some link juice and anchor text authority for phrases like cheap used cars, affordable used cars. Then I build links to this post with the anchor used cars. Finally, I link from this post to the home page with guess what anchor? Used cars. The idea is that if your home page is ranking for used cars and you make a post rank for the same term even if its 200 results deep and you link to your home page that is ranking decently for the same term there is a high chance that your home page will move higher and make you more money depending on the authority of other sites competing for that phrase.
5) Use your keywords wisely within your posts. One of the first things I mentioned in this post is that you do not have to repeat the same keywords over and over. One of the best ways that you can optimize your content is to use related keywords. If you use the Adwords tool you will find many just by running a search for the top level keyword. Then if you find one that is related to what you are writing about then put that keyword in the search box and run it again. The system will give related phrases and long tails that you can use inside your content. Export a list of words so that you have a reference as to what different words you can use that are on topic and that have traffic. Having a small list of 10 words is more than enough to help you create a post that flows and does not look ridiculous in the eyes of your readers. You do not have to use all the words just a a few. Use them when appropriate. This way you have more chances to make money blogging about whatever you write about even if your blog is a general niche blog. Hey, I have friends that post about whatever they like and get a lot of organic traffic because they research their topic and tweak their content before posting.
Now if you made it up to here reading you should have an idea on how you can tune up your blog to help you generate a little more blog traffic. If you use these strategies wisely you will find that they will help you make money with Adsense or whatever you are promoting. Eventually, if you are getting more people to your site, you will get more blog readers if you are trying to be famous. So that is it for now folks. Tweak your posts and make money online now.

Making Money Online – The Most Efficient Ways to Waste Your Time Online
Posted on | April 13, 2009 | 32 Comments
Have you ever felt that you are spending your time online and yet the rate of growth of your business is minimal? Here are some of the most common ways that webmasters and bloggers waste their time online unproductively.
Building a Digg profile in hopes to become the next top user. Almost a year ago there was this huge buzz around how hitting the top page of Digg could easily send thousands of visitors in just a single day. Quite a lot of bloggers (including yours truly) engaged on a mission to create a huge Digg profile hoping that if the friend count increased one day their blog would get enough votes from friends to send a post to the front page and score a massive amount of hits. First of all traffic from Digg does not convert. Second, if you are an Internet Marketer, the Digg community already hates you. Third, if you are on a shared hosting and you hit the front page, your site will go down due to CPU overload. Fourth, Diggers have a tendency to visit, look and Digg and hit back on the browser.
Trying to sell products on traffic exchanges. Traffic exchanges are good if you are trying to build a list. However if you try to sell something on them you are just wasting time. If fact the vast majority of people that have had success with them just put on a micro squeeze page with just some catchy bullet points and a form to capture emails and names. The ones that are not successful usually list niche blogs on them with Adsense and end up banned by Adsense for invalid impressions, put on a blog instead of a squeeze page to try to capture readers or just put up a page with a few banners on them hoping someone would click. Note: People participating on traffic exchanges are just looking to get traffic to themselves and are waiting impatiently for the counter to get to zero. If you want to have a chance to get something from them set up a squeeze page with a few words offering them some free crap if they sign up to your “news letter”. You even get more chances for sign ups if you put on a video or some audio content.
Trying to get recurrent traffic from Stumble Upon. Been there, done that. Waste of time. Leave the stumblers alone. Stumble Upon is fun, just that.
Check your Adsense account every 15 minutes. If you spend most of your time online checking your Adsense account you are losing valuable time that you could be spending writing content and building links to your sites.
Check you web stats 10 times a day. While stats are a very important indicator of your sites performance checking stats multiple times a day is just losing time. It is better if you check them a few times a week or even better, once a week. This will help you spend your online time more efficiently.
Read a thousand blogs. This happens a lot when people read too many make money online blogs. Every marketer has an unique way of making money online and some of them contradict what others say. If you spend to much time reading every blog you find you will end up hit by the analysis paralysis. It happened to me at some point and some times it happens again but now I have only hand full of selected blogs that I read on a constant basis on my reader. I also unsubscribe at lightning speed from blogs and lists that alternate from a post and a sales pitch an a constant basis. Not only are these blogs a waste of time, they are also after your money.
Read a ton of free or even worst, paid ebooks on the same subject. Ok, reading ebooks is nice but if you are reading 5 ebooks on Article Marketing you will notice that most of them say the same thing. There is no secret technique just write a lot of interesting articles to and you will get traffic or, write a lot of boring articles and you get at least links.
Trying to build your “brand” by having a beautiful blog with a theme that cost you a thousand dollars and all that stuff. I have seen bloggers that have paid some thousands for some logos and a theme only to announce that they will be selling their blog a few weeks after they invested a lot of money. Again this not exactly a time waster is mostly a waste of money. I wanted to mention it because there are a lot of people that think that you can’t make money from a blog if you use a free theme. Totally False.
Changing you blog theme more than you change your underwear. Changing a theme is not as fast as they say since widgets appear move to where they want or just suddenly out of nowhere you have the same one two times on your blog. Find a theme you like, tweak it and leave it like that. Changing your theme will not make you rich.
Focusing on a sole make money online blog. Make money online blogs are profitable if you have an enormous amount of social traffic or if you have decent search traffic. Niche blogs are profitable with as low as 50 visits a day from search engines if you manage to monetize them correctly. Build lots of them if you truly want to make money on the internet.
Hang around too much on webmaster forums. Webmaster forums are nice but they can also be misleading be careful what you read there and do not spend too much time posting. Build your VRE not somebody else’s.
Read too much on how to blog. Don’t just read about it, do it! Writing techniques are interesting to implement and help create engaging content but are more useful if you actually use them.
